On November 2, the solidarity gala of ACTUME - Association Against Tuberculosis and Endemic Diseases - held every year since 2011, took place in Courbevoie, France. On this occasion, all members of the association, volunteers and a large diaspora were presented with information on the association's activities, its completed and future projects.

The Gala was chaired by Jacques Kossowski, Mayor of Courbevoie, represented by Marie-Pierre Limoge, First Deputy Mayor, and by Catherine Morelle, Responsible for Community Life. It was also honored by the presence of Mohamed Yahya Ouid Teiss, represented by Sid'Ahmed Amar Didi, First Counselor of the Embassy of Mauritania, and Sao Ousmane, representing the UNESCO Delegation in France.

Alongside the many supporters of the Association, Coumba Diallo, export director in French-speaking Africa of PPM participated because PPM has supported the action of ACTUME in Mauritania for 14 years.

Thus, PPM participated in the financing of the Community Pharmacy and Valorization of Medicinal Plants in the commune of Tékane which opened in 2022.

This pharmacy facilitates access to care for approximately 17,000 patients and is a place of orientation, information and exchanges dedicated to the health of the most deprived. Likewise, it helps to ensure the improvement of the quality of health care thanks to the traceability of medicines and a permanent strategy of health prevention in this commune of Tékane, located in the southwest of Mauritania, not far from the border with Senegal.

Taking into account ancestral practices, the medicinal plant enhancement project was a natural choice to complement the pharmacy's traditional offering through traditional care methods. This project was integrated into the design of the pharmacy, which includes a green space, a social space, a training room, a phytotherapy research laboratory, and storage and treatment areas.

This community pharmacy will be completed in 2025 by a health center.

Previously, PPM in French-speaking Africa supported ACTUME's Health Caravans in Mauritania from 2010 to 2018, which allowed thousands of patients to benefit from free consultations and medication. For example, in 2017, this caravan mobilized more than 90 health professionals over a weekend and consultations were carried out in different specialties (general medicine, stomatology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, etc.) for some 4,500 underprivileged patients.

"Today, thait is a joint effort that is being carried out between the community pharmacy and our Mauritania PPM teams. Our Medical Visitors are involved in the training of the pharmacy teams but also with community agents in Tekane area. All this with the aim of helping populations obtain accessible and effective medication", Coumba Diallo said.
